DNA Chips In the same way that people have different faces and body shapes, each
persons genes are also unique.Genetic differences determine our level of
immunity to diseases, the efficacy of medical treatment and the probabilityo f
side effects. Determining such differences before beginning treatment allows
the selection of optimal drugs and medical courses of action for each
individual ( an approach known as personalized medical treatment ). DNA
chips represent a tool that enables the investigation of genetic
differences. However, current DNA analysis is a time-consuming process
involving a range of expensive equipment whose use requires specialized
knowledge. Weh ave developed an original electrochemical DNA chip that
represents a precise and easy-to-operate DNA analysis system, and are now
promoting the practical use of such chips in medical fields as well as in a
multitude of other areas where DNA analysis is required.
Genelyzer
Previously, separate pieces of equipment were used to conduct each stage of the DNA analysis process. Toshiba has now incorporated the whole process into a single unit featuring a refined, compact design, allowing a short analysis time through the use of an original electrochemical method.

DNA Chips
Rather than investigating hundreds or thousands of genes exhaustively,
Toshiba's Genelyzer chip narrows down and analyzes the several dozen
pieces of DNA information necessary. Limiting the amount of DNA
information to be investigated for each test category optimizes test
conditions and facilitates analysis with a higher level of precision.
