Toshiba Group Procurement Policy

This is the Toshiba Group's procurement policy, which includes compliance with laws and consideration for human rights and the environment.

1.Basic Procurement Policy

When procuring materials and services necessary for the production and supply of products to our customers, the Toshiba Group complies with applicable laws and regulations, emphasizes environmental considerations, and promotes fair and open transactions and the development of partnerships based on mutual trust with our suppliers.

  • Compliance with laws and environmental consideration
    In conducting procurement activities, we comply with the laws and regulations of each country and region where we operate and give due consideration to environmental protection and resource conservation.
  • Promotion of fair and open transactions
    We provide fair opportunities to prospective and existing suppliers, both domestically and internationally.
  • Strengthening partnerships with suppliers
    We strive to build and develop better partnerships with suppliers worldwide based on mutual understanding and trust.

2.Supplier Selection Policy

When starting a business relationship, we give priority to companies that meet the following five conditions.

  • Compliance with laws and emphasis on environmental considerations.
  • Sound management and financial condition.
  • Appropriate levels of quality, price, and delivery for supplies to the Toshiba Group.
  • Stable supply capability and flexibility to respond to demand fluctuations.
  • Technical capabilities that can contribute to Toshiba Group products.

3.Requests to Our Suppliers

As the Toshiba Group operates globally with a wide range of products, procurement of materials and services must be carried out with full consideration of customer requirements. Accordingly, we ask all our suppliers to implement the following requests.

  • Compliance with laws and social norms

    Suppliers are requested to comply with the laws and social norms applicable in the countries and regions where they conduct business activities.

    • Compliance with relevant laws and regulations (e.g., competition laws, commercial laws, subcontracting laws, foreign exchange laws, personal data protection, copyright laws, etc.).
    • Prohibition of child labor and forced labor
    • Prohibition of discrimination
    • Provision of a safe and hygienic working environment
  • Environmental consideration

    Based on the concept of passing on the irreplaceable Earth to the next generation in a healthy state, we ask suppliers to actively engage in activities that promote environmentally harmonious product development.

    • Establish environmental protection systems in accordance with ISO 14001 and promote acquisition of external certifications
    • Implement green procurement of parts and raw materials with low environmental impact, including reduction of hazardous chemicals
    • Promote environmental conservation activities (formulating environmental policies, system development, training, etc.)
  • Continued sound business management

    To maintain continuous business with us, it is important that your business is managed soundly. Therefore, suppliers are asked to disclose their management policies and business conditions (including financial condition).

  • Ensuring excellent quality

    To ensure and improve the quality of products provided to customers, suppliers should work with the Toshiba Group to establish quality assurance systems in accordance with the ISO 9000 family and seek external certification, and also comply with the following:

    • Compliance with safety standards in each country/region (JIS, Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law, UL, CE marking, etc.)
    • Continuous provision of materials and services that meet the Toshiba Group's required specifications and quality
  • Providing materials and services at appropriate prices

    To provide customers with economically satisfactory products, suppliers should offer materials and services at market-competitive prices and pursue continuous cost reduction efforts.

  • Ensuring reliable delivery and establishing a stable supply system

    To ensure continuous supply of products to customers and respond to sudden demand fluctuations, suppliers should ensure reliable delivery and establish a stable and flexible supply system.

  • Improvement of technical capabilities

    To provide safe and superior products based on customer needs, suppliers should continuously improve their technical capabilities.
